Grading Syllabus For The Traditional Tang Soo Do Association

4th to 3rd Gup (Red Belt)

Basic requirements

Current membership to the TTSDA
Approval of the instructor to grade
Regular class attendance of at least 3 months since the last meeting
Minimum age 8/9 years

General Knowledge

General rules of class attendance
Basic Tang Soo Do etiquette
Basic Tang Soo Do terminology
Correct Tang Soo Do attitudes
Additional knowledge of Tang Soo Do terminology
Be able to count to ten in Korean
The five basic principles of Tang Soo Do
Understanding the principles behind balance, speed, power and focus

Demonstration of Ability

Be able to demonstrate all previous requirements.
Be able to execute powerful techniques using correct balance, speed and focus. Use correct conditioning techniques for hands and feet. Those under 21 years and over 60 are exempt from the requirement of conditioning. Women may comply at their discretion.

Fitness

Sustain 10 minutes of aerobic exercise
30 press-ups
40 sit-ups
60 Half-squats

Hand Techniques (Soo Gi)

Low x-block (Ssang Soo Ha Dan Mahk Kee) in front stance (Chun Gul Jaseh)
Lowest knife hand block (Choi Ha Dan Soo Do Mahk Kee) in low back stance (Hu Gul Jaseh)
Palm heel strike (Jang Kwon Kong Kyuk) in side stance (Sa Ko Rip Jaseh)
Triple hand combinations

Foot Techniques (Jok Gi)

Double back kick ( Du Bal Dwi Cha Gi) in sparring stance (Dae Ryun Jaseh)
Stepping 360 derees back spinning kick (Dwi Hu Ri Gi Cha Gi) in sparring stance (Dae Ryun Jaseh)
Jumping inside to outside kick (E Dan Ahneso Pahkuro Cha Gi) in sparring stance (Dae Ryun Jaseh)
Combination kicking

Staff (Bong)

Be able to demonstrate basic figure of eight motion with one hand only and with both hands either from standing position or walking forwards
Correct positioning and use of hands in ready stance (Jhoon Bee Jaseh) and return (Ba Ro).

Self Defence (Ho Sin Sool)
Back wrist grip 1 to 2 (Il Bon to E Bon)
Side wrist grip 1 to 2 (Il Bon to E Bon)

Breaking
Spinning back kick (Dwi Hu Ri Gi Cha Gi) to a ¾ inch breaker board
Jumping front kick (E Dan Ahp Cha Gi) to a ¾ inch breaker board
Women and children under 16 years, half of a ¾ inch breaker board
